海頓【創世紀】

《創世紀》是音樂家海頓的神劇作品，取材自《聖經》故事，描寫創世紀前的渾沌初開，以及創世紀後的種種奇蹟，上帝只用六天的時間創造世界，運用合唱團與管弦樂團之外，加入獨唱，每一段的結束都有精彩的合唱樂段，開啟時代最偉大的宗教信念和音樂創作巔峰。

創世紀 約瑟夫 ‧ 海頓為三個獨唱聲部，合唱和管絃樂團所寫的神劇 歌詞是由Lidley取自米爾頓所著的“失樂園”（Paradise Lost），再由Gottfried van Swieten翻譯修訂成德文。此劇作於1795～98年，於1799年，3月19日在維也納Burgtheater作首次的公開獻演。   【序言】 海頓會再次地嗜試創作神劇，無疑地是受到了英國對韓德爾無上尊崇的影響。海頓的首次嘗試“Il ritorno di Tobia”是作於1774／75年，稍後他並曾親自加以修訂了數次，但該作品並不曾成為一齒句成功的作品。將“創世紀”的故事推介給海頓的人是倫敦歌劇團的主持人薩羅門（Salomon）。然而海頓很快地瞭解到，他的英文能力尚不足以讓他用此一語言來創作這齣作品。於是他將這本書帶回維也納，由Gottfried van Swieten將之翻譯摘要成德文。Swieten此人是皇家圖書館員，也是一位很熱心的音樂愛好者，他曾嚐試作曲，並希望能成為一位詩人。 Swieten臝得當地貴族們的支持，保證給予海頓適當的費用，並負擔演出時的所有開支。根據記載，海頓後來曾說：「我一直到整個作品已經完成一半後，才瞭解到它將會很成功；在創作“創世紀”的這段時間內，我從未如此地虔誠。每天我都跪下來向上帝祈禱，希望祂賜我力量來完成這首作品。」「創世紀」於1798年4月29日和30日，在維也納的Palais Schwarzenberg首演：海頓親自指揮演出，並由薩里耶利（Salieri）彈奏大鍵琴。這齣作品是極大的成功，並在隨後的那個星期又上演了兩次。一年後，此劇首次公開獻演，並在短短時間內即在德國與英國的無數個城巿中上演，稍後也在巴黎上演，皆獲得極大的成功。 對於這齣作品，當然也有些批評的意見。柏林唱詩班指揮柴爾特（Zelter）。即曾在Leipzig Musikalische Zeitung（1802年）上，發表了一篇長而切題的介紹“創世紀”之文章。毫無疑問地，這齣作品可從各方面不同的觀點來看。無數的器樂譜經驗被應用在管絃樂部份，合唱曲目，尤其是那些賦格形態的曲子，更顯露了作者對彌撒曲和韓德爾風格的內行。另一方面，詠歎調和二重唱又經常是以讓人回想起德式輕歌劇（Singspiel）的形態出現，而使得此作品的崇高特質多多少少轉移到頗為人性化的層面。這些對比可在C小調的“The Representation of Chaos”（位於由管絃樂演奏的前奏曲之後）中發現。“And there was light”處，相當明顯地轉成大調，若依十八世紀的審美學來看是具有提醒注意的效果；不過，Uriel接下來所唱的詠歎調“Nun Schwanden vor dem heilign Strahle”是採用令人振奮的A大調，這倒是個全然的意外。 一個特別充滿聲光色彩的畫面，是在第一幕快要結尾處，敘述太陽第一次昇起時，至少在此曲的開頭9個小節中，大自然的恬靜威嚴被太人性化的華麗和儀式所取代。儘管劇中有些細節──例如描述大自然的狀態，或者動物王國的成員──以今天的眼光來看，可能顯得太天真；儘管此作品後半段中，第一個人類所唱的音樂，有點類似“四季”中農村世界的前奏曲：但是，海頓所寫的生動鮮明的旋律與巧妙的創作技巧，都使得“創世紀”直到今日?能在音樂界佔有一穩固的地位。 大衛 ‧ 史塔克
